Dr. Charles Hitchcock serves as Vice Chair of Education and heads the Education Branch. The department continues to build upon our past successes and continues to strive to be innovative in our teaching. The use of virtual microscopic slides continues to become an integral component of local, national, and international courses. The Department of Pathology provides continuing medical education to physicians in the OSU Medical Center, the community, the state of Ohio, and internationally. The department’s weekly Pathology Grand Rounds presents collaborative research efforts undertaken by departmental research and clinical faculty as well as residents, graduate students and fellows to others within and outside of the department. Departmental faculty members provide specific topic conferences in autopsy pathology, surgical pathology, clinical pathology, and tumor pathology to a wide range of faculty within the College of Medicine. The department offers Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits through our Pathology Grand Rounds, Surgical Pathology Peer Review Conference, Autopsy Conference, Renal/Kidney Conference and local, national, and international meetings. Numerous departmental faculty, residents, and fellows participate in the highly successful Annual Surgical Pathology Update Course held during the fall in Columbus, directed by Dr. Saul Suster. In 2007, the course will be directed by Dr. Wendy Frankel and Dr. Amy Gewirtz.
