The Division of Thoracic Pathology has three faculty members: Dr. Charles L. Hitchcock (Interim Director), Dr. Gang He, and Dr. Marino Leon. The faculty members worked closely with the Molecular Pathology Laboratory to introduce mutation analyses of KRAS and EGFR genes in pulmonary adenocarcinomas. In collaboration with several faculty members in the Division of Thoracic Surgery, the faculty members have established a clinical and research effort in the molecular assessment of primary vs. metastatic pulmonary tumors. The faculty members of the Division of Thoracic Pathology are working closely with faculty members from other departments within the College of Medicine to establish collaborative research efforts in lung cancer biology and tissue banking. The division’s faculty members are expanding the education mission of the division with lectures to residents and fellows inside and outside of the department, and by establishing a collection of virtual slides of benign and malignant lung lesions.
