The Division of Molecular Pathology is directed by Dr. Thomas W. Prior and has established itself as one of the major academic DNA testing centers for genetic diseases. The Division is also involved in several research projects and clinical trials including: Muscular Dystrophy Cooperative Research Center (funded by the NIH), Clinical Trials for Pediatric Spinal Muscular Atrophy Project (funded by the NIH), Incidence and Molecular Screening for Hereditary Cancer (funded by the NIH), Project Cure: SMN2 Copy Number Assay (funded by the Families of SMA) and Population Carrier Screening of Spinal Muscular Atrophy (funded by the Claire Altman Hein Foundation). Dr. Prior currently serves as the American Board of Medical Genetics Vice President of Laboratory Genetics, the elected molecular genetic representative on the Board of the American College of Medical Genetics, Families of Spinal Muscular Atrophy Research Committee, American College of Medical Genetics Laboratory Practice Committee and The American Board of Pathology Molecular Genetic Test Development and Advisory Committee.
