The Division of Gynecologic Pathology, under the direction of Dr. Iouri Ivanov, continues to provide diagnostic assistance to constantly expanding gynecological and oncogynecological services. In addition to Dr. Ivanov, faculty members who support this division include Drs. Adrian Suarez, Rulong Shen, Stephen Moore, Hans Iwenofu and James Liu. The Division continues performance of weekly GYN Tumor Boards with the utilization of virtual slide technology that brought the quality of presentation of the morphological features of discussed cases to a new higher level and became a valuable tool for education of residents and fellows. The division is engaged in several scientific projects. Some of them are related to DNA mismatch repair protein expression in endometrial cancer, p21 and other cycle regulators in endometrial carcinoma, molecular basis of gynecologic atrophy, and microchimerism formation in some gynecologic neoplasms. Participation in activities of the Gynecologic Oncology Group became a vital part of the work of our Division. Dr. Ivanov twice a year attends GOG meetings as a member of the Pathology Review Group. During the period between meetings, the Division is constantly involved in the time consuming and meticulous processing of submission of necessary materials (slides, photos, stains, forms) for the patients included in different GOG protocols. Future initiatives include further expansion of research activity and tissue banking in collaboration with gynecologic and oncologic faculty.
