Under the leadership of Dr. Rulong Shen, members of the division include Dr. Paul Wakely Jr., and Dr. Adrian Suarez. Dr. Paul Wakely serves as director of the FNA (Fine Needle Aspiration) section. The Division of Cytopathology has continued its missions in service, education and research. The division continues to provide timely quality services to patients and clinicians at OSU and its outreach facilities such as Stoneridge and Southeast Ohio Medical Center. The continuation of a weekly Cytology-Histology Peer Review Conference has enhanced our Quality Assurance Program and supports the educational opportunities for our cytopathologists, residents, fellow and cytotechnologists. Clinical research and collaboration with basic research groups provides our residents and fellows ample avenues to pursue research. Members of the division have spoken at national and international meetings including the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP), American Society of Cytopathology and IAP. The cytopathology fellowship program has received continued accreditation of a 5-year cycle by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). In addition, the Division of Cytopathology is in the process of establishing industry collaborations with SurePath and Cytyc.
