The Division of Renal and Transplant Pathology continues to grow. Our renal biopsy referral service extends to seven states and over 40 hospitals. Our transplant biopsy volume continues to be high, and, in addition to renal allograft biopsies, we sign out all heart, pulmonary and pancreas transplant biopsies. Dr. Tibor Nadasdy serves as the division director with support from Dr. Anjali Satoskar and Dr. Sergey Brodsky, as well as Dr. Daniel Sedmak. The division is also supported by Dr. Gyongyi Nadasdy, Laboratory Manager, and Ed Calomeni, Director of the Electron Microscopy Laboratory, as well as Phillip Winnard, Cherri Bott and Stephanie Lange. The division is engaged in numerous research projects; the relevance of antibody mediated rejection with peritubular capillary C4d deposition in human renal allografts is currently being studied. Several collaborative studies with the Nephrology Division of the Department of Internal Medicine are ongoing. They include “Warfarin nephropathy (recently described by us) and the pathogenesis of lupus nephritis. Other clinically-oriented projects such as the relevance of periglomerular fibrosis in chronic renal diseases, the role of IgG subclasses in membranous glomerulonephritis and lupus nephritis, and the value of immunostains in cardiac amyloidosis are also in progress.
